The Best Fish Oil – Omega3

Posted by Challenger on November 17, 2009

Essential fatty acids cannot be made in the body and must be obtained from food. There are in fact two types: Omega 3 and Omega 6. In modern diets we tend to get very little Omega 3 and large amounts of Omega 6.omega3

Sources of Omega 3 include: Oily fish, fresh (not tinned) Tuna, Linseed, Walnuts, Rapeseed oil and fortified foods such as Eggs, Milk, Spread and Biscuits.

Omega 6 is found in Vegetable oils, polyunsaturaged margarines, foods made from these : stir fries, biscuits, cakes and crisps.

We need to get a good balance of both. Best fish oil or Omega 3 may help to reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer, ease the symptoms of arthritis and improve levels of concentration in children.  Although Omega 6 has it’s benefits in maintaining cell membranes, skin and reducing LDL cholesterol, high intakes can increase HDL cholesterol and  may increase cancer risk.  The imbalance in these two Omega essential acids has been reported on as contributing to cardiovascular disease, cancer, and inflammatory and autoimmune diseases
